A Dania woman was killed early Saturday when the car she was riding in left the road and struck a cement pole after the driver possibly fell asleep at the wheel, police said.
Lametrias Simpson, 19, was a passenger in a car going south in the 1400 block of South Ocean Drive when the driver, Demetrius Symonette, lost control of the car about 3:15 a.m. Saturday, said Todd DeAngelis, a police spokesman.
Simpson, who was eight months pregnant, died at the scene, DeAngelis said. No information was available on Simpson’s baby late Saturday.
Symonette and two other passengers were injured in the crash and were in stable condition at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood.
DeAngelis said detectives think Symonette may have fallen asleep at the wheel but are continuing to investigate the accident.
